For those of you who expressed interest in casting your vote for the Marx Foods challenge I participated in, the poll is now fixed! So if you’re in the mood to peruse 10 great recipes, here’s the link.

Once again, the recipe I submitted was the Seared Fennel Salmon with Pasilla Spiced Pumpkin Basmati:

  • What a lovely blog!! The lighting in your photographs is fantastic -- is it natural light?

    • Thanks Michele! No, it's not natural light--I do most of my cooking at night (after work), so I use an external flash (SB-600) on my camera and I bounce the light off the ceiling. If you're interested in more details, I talked about this flash in one of the first posts I wrote in my 'photography' section.
I wish I could use natural light--it's the best option--but unfortunately by the time dinner is on the table (especially now with the time change) it's waaaay too dark, even right next to a window.

      • Thanks so much. I'll definitely do some reading in your photography section. I don't have natural light either. One might say the lighting in my kitchen is "office-like." Wretched, but I do what I can for now. :)

        • I feel your pain about the 'office lighting' . . . thankfully you can correct the color balance with your camera to create a warmer picture despite the bad lighting. And the power of that flash . . . I really can't say enough about it. I use it for pretty much every food shot that goes up on this blog.

      • I was just thinking the same thing, so I've been trawling through your posts. What a blog it is too..., I get really excited when I come across a blog like this, love it.

  • Your culinery endeavors never cease to amaze, Jenna! Looking forward to smelling that delish pot roast, come Sunday... :) I'm thinking about maybe bringing along my recipe and ingredients for a delectable cinnamon bundt cake for the potluck ... Think we'd have time to bake that amidst the scrapbooking chaos?

    • Sure, if we meet early enough. =) If I have the pot roasts in the oven it might be challenging to fit in a bundt cake as well, but I'm sure we can make it work!

  • Can't wait to try out all these recipes. They sound fantastic!
Also love your header pic btw. Beautiful :)

Thanks for commenting on my blog!

  • GORGEOUS!
I love your photography style, mama.
When I come through Chicago next year I'll have to do a dinner with you!

    • Hooray, thanks! Though it looks like the cheesecake recipe is blowing mine out of the water . . . deservedly so!
