This is a post about my Saturday night date with the Pioneer Woman’s bathtub and a glass of red. But it’s also a post about Christmas.
Here’s how I tie them together: for some people, Christmas is a time of insane busyness. Running around, shopping, cooking, and doing laundry in preparation for hosting multitudes of guests may not be everyone’s idea of a relaxing time.
The holidays are great, but I’ve talked to so many people who simply get stressed.
After my post documenting the beer in the shower experiment, a number of you planted the seed of red wine in the bathtub. And this seed blossomed into a flower, which grew into a tree, which one day was cut down by a bunch of opportunistic loggers who . . . anyway, the point is, I tried it. As soon as I saw the amazing tub available to me at our room in the Lodge, I knew it was fate.
I love the simple, clean lines of the Pioneer Woman’s bathroom design. The whole room was screaming ‘PEACE AND WELL BEING!’
Except it wasn’t really screaming because that wouldn’t be very peaceful. Think of it more as a screaming whisper.
The only exception to this message of peace was the sink area, which was taken over by a ruffian band of make-up and lotion products.
Anyway, beer in the shower–it was fine. But wine in the tub–yeeeeeeesssss!
By the way, any time you see me type the word ‘yeeeeeeesssss,’ please understand I’m not just saying ‘yes’ in a cute blogging exaggerated way. I’m actually quoting Gimli from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movie when Aragorn is like “Let’s hunt some Orc” and Gimli lets loose that ‘yeeeeeeesssss’ that could cause the walls of Jericho to fall down on their butts.
The hot water, the spicy red liquid–it’s dreamy.
So my remedy for Christmas stress is: pop into a tub with a glass of your favorite wine. Sit back. Relax. Close your eyes. Enjoy. And keep the bottle nearby for refills.
Normally during my showers I compose mental lists of things I need to get done before bedtime. I think about food. I plan what I’m going to get who for Christmas. But you know what was going through my brain during that bath at the P-Dub’s?
Nothing. Absolute Zero. It was like my mind was in a washing machine. A relaxing, spa-designed washing machine that left my brain white, sparkly, and stupid.
Stupid in the good way, of course. In the empty, Zen kind of sense.
Merry almost-Christmas everyone. Treat yourselves!
*Disclaimer: don’t drink too much! Don’t drink unless you’re not only 21 but also a responsible adult and person! No drunk in the tub/drowning experiences allowed! Please let me know if I need to write anything else to cover my butt in a legal sense. I’m sorry I said ‘butt’!
This does look relaxing, I’m glad you could find time for a time out
I’m such a knuckle head! I thought (until I read it all) you were pouring wine into the bath water, LOL. I was wondering if I should warn (out of concern), that doing that could probably cause a UTI, then I read further down in relief, you DRANK the wine!! LOL
Merry Christmas!
<3 Layla
That’s so funny! No, the bathwater only had some bubbly soap in it, heh heh. Merry Christmas Layla!
You know our soaking tub does not get used enough. [okay twice in 4 years and once was a kid] So I am going to take up your suggestion and I am going to have our Christmas champagne [tradition] in the tub instead.
Nothing says “bubble bath” quite like a nice bottle of Moet. 😉
Thanks for the idea. [Although I am going to have to skip the beer in the shower thing. That is just..well, wrong. heehee but glad you took the “hit” for the rest of us.]
I did this about two weeks ago – except, it was wine in the shower. Got to love. Happy Holidays!
Couldnt agree more! I’m about to have a relaxing Lush soak myself!
Sounds sooo relaxing! Merry Christmas to you, Jenna!
Ah, I’ve had my virtual bath now, thank you, sipping a glass of wine in my mind. I feel very peaceful and rested. And who says that computers are not good for us? If we connect to the right blog, it can be. Blessings to you, Jenna…
i love wine in the tub, i usually put on some relaxing music as well (sade, miles davis). and an inflatable bath pill is a must! and sephora brand body wash creates bubbles that will stay for hours. i think i’m gonna go fill up the tub right now……
Oooh, I love both Sade and Miles Davis! I’ll have to look into inflatable bath pills–sounds brilliant. If only my tub at home were not old and scoured to the bone (completely unappetizing for a bath) . . .
Yes, wine in the tub, hot water and bubbles, make a luxurious relaxing soak…been doing it for years! Glad you got to experience it…beats the heck out of beer in the shower, doesn’t it?!
Yes!! There is no comparison.
That looks so relaxing! My tub is really small- I definitely wouldn’t fit in it for a bath! I look forward to one day having a large tub 🙂
Oh wow! I like the Sound of this! But I think a particular type of bath ( like the one u used ) is necessary. Like u, my mind is always on everything but the present moment when imbin the shower! It’s exhausting before the day has even begun! X
Now you’ve got me thinking about a nice glass of muscato with a plate of malva pudding in the tub. Is that wrong?
My heart almost exploded as I looked at that shower/tub arrangement and “PEACE AND WELL BEING” was silently, screamingly whispering at me.
I so wish that we had a beautiful bathroom with some sort of zen-ful arrangement like that. I’m SO glad that you got to make the most of it 🙂
Enjoying a good soak with a glass of wine is one of my favorite things. If I were at the Lodge, I’m not sure if I ever would have come out of that tub. Looks very Zen-like.
Love the photo of the glass and your feet in the tub!! Great idea to just relax! And where better to do that at PW’s ranch!? Have a WONDERFUL holiday season Jenn!! Love your blog and look forward to all your posts and photos into the New Year!
WONDERFUL photos!
I love the one with your toes in the background & the once with bubbles around the bottom of the glass…they perfectly capture the moment.
That bathtub looks luxurious….Oh how I pine for a huge tub! I am honestly going to try this wine / bubbles/ relaxing at the holidays thing 😉 we don’t host family, but somehow it still becomes a stressful time of year. Somehow….ha.
Anyway…if people aren’t able to actually do the bathtub thing…I suggest reading Jenna’s post a 2nd time! The photos alone can relax you, and her jokes will make you laugh out loud.
There is nothing like a good long soak in a tub… it will fix almost anything. Literally, my sweet husband is known to say, when the world just gets to big for me, “How ’bout a bath?” All the warm water, combined with only candlelight is perfect to fix me up. 🙂 Merry Christmas!
Hannah, my husband does the same thing. Such a great stress reliever. I dream of a beautiful, jetted, soaking tub. Someday…
Ha! You need to write legal disclaimers for a living so they can always be that entertaining.
And that bathroom…I covet that bathroom. Like, seriously.
And I don’t think relaxation and zen is captured quite like the bubbles-and-vino picture. Simply lovely. I’m glad you had the presence of mind to snap a few shots!
So perfect.
I’m glad you did this and documented the bubbles. I’m also hoping that this post inspires a movement. We all need to do this more often.
A great weekend at the lodge and a great way to relax! Nice photos of your red wine bath!
Oh dear. That bathtub. I want it.
And the glass of red wine. I have it next to me right now.
