The Mama Kitty Christmas card series #1

In case any of y’all out there need a little inspiration for your Christmas cards this year, and in celebration of the fact that we have now entered the magical month of December, I’ve decided to bring you 7 historical Christmas cards that my grandparents Mama Kitty and Big Jake have sent out over the years, over the course of today and tomorrow.

And if that sentence at all implied that I am sending out Christmas cards this year, you are reading waaaay too much between the lines. The last Christmas cards I sent were 5 years ago, and they doubled as wedding thank you notes. Yep. It’s called efficiency. It’s also called procrastination.

This first card is perhaps the most famous one of all. It was the Christmas of 1989, and all us grandchildren were bundled up in elf colored sweatsuits.

Elf-colored = red and green, in case that threw you for a loop.

And yes, my grandmother is wearing a white, lacy teddy. Why do you ask?

Doesn’t your grandmother wear lingerie for the yearly Christmas card as she stands in the snow?

Oh.

Incidentally, that was the same Christmas Big Jake made out with Santa Claus.

Just kidding! It was really more of a peck.

I mean, c’mon, kids were watching!

Christmas card #2 coming up in a couple hours.

A study in contrasts

I could write pages and pages about my two grandmothers . . . and maybe I will someday soon. Though both wonderful, both strong, both God-fearing, and both loving, two more different people the world has not seen.

These two pictures illustrate it better than any words of mine could do.
